The New England Patriots have their new WR1.
He wasn’t their first, second, or third choice, but Stefon Diggs is no average consolation prize.
As reported by NFL insider Ari Meirov, Diggs will wear No. 8 in Foxboro.

He wore No. 14 with the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills before switching to No. 1 with the Houston Texans, which was the same number he wore in college at Maryland.
The Patriots unsuccessfully tried to get Tee Higgins and Chris Godwin before inking Diggs to a very lucrative three-year deal worth $69 million.
Needless to say, that was a risky move.
He’s coming off a season-ending injury, isn’t getting any younger, and has a long and well-documented history of power struggles and burning bridges.
With that in mind, they added a potential exit after one year.
Still, if Diggs can return to his former self, he’s going to be a massive pickup for Mike Vrabel’s team, not to mention he’s just the kind of workhorse that Drake Maye needs in the passing game.
He had a strong season with the Texans when he was healthy, and it seemed like he still had plenty left in the tank.
Diggs is an avid competitor, and he doesn’t take losing or not being heavily involved in the passing game lightly.
Hopefully, that won’t be an issue next season, as the Patriots should be much improved after one year under Jerod Mayo, but it’s not like the bar was that high.
They will most definitely be better, but whether they will be a playoff team remains to be seen.
